Place de la Bourse - Bordeaux

There are many great reasons to expand to Bordeaux and its surrounding region La Gironde, or to relocate here if you are thinking of moving to France.

Bordeaux is the 9th biggest city in France, situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Garonne river, and is surrounded by some of the worlds most famous vineyards. Something to please everyone! How nice is that?

Vineyards of the Médoc

Some of the famous vineyards that the Bordeaux area boasts are Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Pessac Léognan, Blaye, Saint-Emilion et Sauternes. For more information please read this informative short article about the different wines in the area, by Pascale Filliâtre :

If you are a big wine lover you can follow La Route des Vins and visit various chateaux along the way, and if you book ahead you can also do wine tasting at certain places. If you visit the Office de Tourism in Pauillac you can get a map of the route to follow with the names of the Chateaux and the wines they make.

Bordeaux invested in the creation of the Cité du Vin in 2016. The stunning architecture of this museum was designed by the architectural agency XTU. Its design was influenced by the curves of the river it is built next to and to resemble vines and the swilling of wine. It is definitely worth a visit as you will learn a lot about wine from the Bordeaux region, but also from around the world.

Aeronautics, Space and Defense industries (ASD)

The French aerospace industry is among the best in the world and is ranked 2nd after the United States. Much of this industry is found in Bordeaux with giants such as Dassault Aviation, Thales, Ariane Group, Safran and Airbus, creating thousands of jobs in the area.

Tourism

Tourism is a very big part of the Gironde's revenue especially along the coast with its world famous beaches perfect for surfing. One of the most famous beaches being Lacanau where the Lacanau Pro world Championships are held every year and surfers from all over the world come to compete.

The area is also scattered with beautiful lakes such as the Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans, which is one of the biggest natural lakes in France. You can sail and windsurf on the lake which may also be a safer option for swimming than the ocean if you have younger children. Watch out for the rip tides in the ocean!

The Bassin d'Arcachon is the center of the oyster culture in the area and the home to the biggest sand dune in Europe at a 106 m in height, La Dune de Pilat. It attracts almost 2 million visitors every year. Climb to the top of the dune and you will have a 360° view of the whole bassin including the Atlantic Ocean, the Banc d'Arguin sand bank, and the Cap Ferret peninsula.

Transportation

Luckily Bordeaux has an international airport, Mérignac, which makes it even easier for tourists and business men to travel here. It also has the TGV which can get you to Paris in less than 3 hours. Bordeaux also has a great Tram system which opened in 2004 with 4 different lines - A, B C and D.
