“Tis is the season again”! Have you recently moved to Grenoble and want to know how to fully embrace the holidays in and around the city? We have selected some fun and interesting activities to enjoy with friends and family during the month of December:

Les Marchés de Noël / Christmas Markets:

Two Christmas markets are organised this year in Grenoble and are a great opportunity to go for a stroll and taste some delicious local specialties. Cinema and theatre

With the cold weather and shorter days, why not enjoy some movies or plays? We have listed some good options for children and adults:

Children

Adults

  • Movies : Le Pathé Grenoble and La Nef screen most of their movies in their original language: - Pathé Grenoble Allo Ciné Pathé - La Nef Allo Ciné La Nef Last Christmas and The Addams Family are the season’s movies this year, but make sure you choose to see it in VO (Version Original), unless you want to improve your French and prefer to see the dubbed version!

Restaurants accessible by foot

The following restaurants are easy to get to by foot (1 to 2 hours)

  • L’Auberge des Allières at Lans-en-Vercors: It is a cozy place to enjoy a 'gratin' (baked dish). Come hungry as the owners refill your plate with cheese and potatoes endlessly Auberge des allieres

  • Le Refuge des Feneys at Autrans: Memorable dishes will please your palate after a 2-hour walk to the refuge. It is open during the Christmas holidays and it is important to note that you will enjoy some breathtaking views of Grenoble from the 'Plateau de la Molière'. Refuge des Feneys

Walking with snowshoes in the mountains

Snowshoeing is the best way to immerse yourself during the winter and holiday season! Lots of areas offer rentals as well as food:

  • Col de Porte in the Chartreuse : You could snowshoe from the Col de Porte to the Bergerie de Chamechaude http://www.coldeporte.fr/raquettes

  • Col de Barioz in the Belledonne: Enjoy some breathtaking views during your hike and stop by the refuge for a hot chocolate https://www.barioz.fr

  • Les Hauts Plateaux du Vercors: Experience some real wilderness in this natural reserve which is easily accessible from Corençon: Vercors - Raquettes

Dog sledding is a unique adventure, which brings you closer to nature and animals:

  • Meaudre and Autrans (Vercors) : The mountain range of Vercors offers a wide plateau that is the perfect playground for dog sledding. It is a memorable experience to share with children or friends but you need to book well in advance. Dog sledding Vercors
